Beautiful Hike for the Entire Family

How to get there: Copper Falls is about 2 miles northeast of Mellen in Ashland County. Take State Highway 13 to the north side of Mellen and turn (northeast) on State Highway 169. Go about 1.8 miles. The park entrance will be on your left.

My family took many trips here over the years growing up. It's one of my favorite places and it holds many fond memories. I would definitely recommend taking your children here! The park is beautiful as it runs along the North Country National Scenic Trail. The falls are amazing and when I was little I loved that the water looked so much like root beer (ha!)

There are so many things to do in the park-hiking, picnicking, fishing, camping, and swimming. The 300 foot sand beach for swimming is located at Loon Lake.

Copper Falls is in a prime fishing area, and both the Bad and Tyler Forks rivers offer great fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout. You can also catch large mouth bass, northern pike, and panfish in Loon Lake.

There are over 50 campsites and 23 miles of trails. 8 miles of hiking trails, 8 miles of cross-country skiing trails, and 7.5 miles of mountain biking trails. Most of the hiking trails are relatively short, so they are totally doable for beginners, children, and grandparents! :o) My entire family has been here and we absolutely love it!!

My Family Loves the Falls

When my girls were young we would go every year to hike the trail into the hills and around the falls. This is a beautiful area for the day or weekend. The fall was always our favorite time because of the beautiful colors of the trees that surrond this area.
